Character Description: Shotaro Kaneda
Kaneda is the leader of The Capsules, a motorcycle gang in Neo Tokyo, 2019. Kaneda's bike is his prized possession, and he gets a little peeved when Tetsuo messes with it (at least he does in the first dubbed version of the movie). Still, he was best friends with Tetsuo, the youngest in the group, until Tetsuo went berserk.
Kaneda gets caught up in the AKIRA project, which happens to include his friend Tetsuo, who is number 54 in the series. He meets up with Kay and the resistance to try to infiltrate the project. In the end, the whole city is destroyed by a mental explosion and only Kaneda, Kay, his other friend Kai, and the Colonel survived.
