Azusa, who picked up the nickname of Azuki-chan when she was little, is a young schoolgirl who lives in Tokyo. One day at school a new boy named Yunosuke shows up in her class, and Azusa quickly develops a crush on him. When another boy in the class teases Azusa about her nickname, which she hates, Yunosuke hears the name, and from then on Azusa starts liking her nickname, because that's what Yunosuke knows her as.

Azuki has two best friends, Kaoru and Jidama. Kaoru is a shy and quiet girl who loves Ken Koda. She is blonde and goes to the same class as Azuki. Jidama is a bit tomboy and she is usually angry. She can't stand Ken or Makoto.
