To the casual observer, Roberta seems to be a harmless maid. The sole servant to the Lovelace family in Columbia, she doesn't seem to be at all effective as a maid; she's clumsy, not that good at cleaning, and is a bad cook. She IS fond of the only son of Diego Jose San Fernando Lovelace, Garcia, and would often be seen playing with the young boy.

But the truth is, the clumsiness and ineptitude Roberta exhibits is actually part of a disguise. Roberta's real name is Rosarita Cisneros, and she is a former member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia, or Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia–Ejército del Pueblo (FARC-EP) in Spanish, a communist insurgency group seeking to overthrow the government of Columbia. She was trained as an assassin in Cuba and is proficient in all forms of armed and unarmed combat, and was well-known for her relentless pursuit of her objectives. Her gun handling abilities and fighting skill are at a par with the Lagoon Company's heavy-hand Revy.

However, a combination of guilt from using her skills to kill innocents, as well as seeing her comrades becoming nothing more that errand boys to the drug cartels, drove her to seek a new life, far from conflict and death. She then took up with the Lovelace family, watching out for Garcia. But when the boy was kidnapped and sent to Roanapur, Roberta drops everything and travels there herself to save him... where she finds herself in conflict with the custodians of Garcia... namely the Lagoon Company.
