Last I checked, this anime was available on DVD at Anime Nation and Amazon.
Chobits is the story of an 18 year old boy named Motosuwa Hideki who grew up on a farm and wanted to go to college. But unfortunately, he was rejected, and so Hideki decides to go to a prep school so that he can study hard and get into college.
Then one night, as Hideki is walking home, he finds a Persocom (which is basically an android) in a dumpster. But, when he turns her on, all she can say is "chi". And thus begins the funny story of Chii and Hideki.
Note: In the manga, Hideki is 19 years old.

other genres for this anime are romance and comedy.
if you actually watched all the episodes (like me) then you'll know that in the end chi asks hideki if he loves her and it takes him a while but he finally says yes ^^
the last episode made me cry because it starts out happy then sad then extremely sad then happy again
