Hideki is used to getting the short end of the stick. He can't get into school, his parents cut off his allowence, and he's a 18-year-old virgin (19 in the manga). So when he found a perfectly good humanoid computer (a Persocom) lying in the garbage, it seemed like his luck was finally starting to turn around.

Hideki comes from the country and has a bad habit of talking to himself out loud. While coming home from work one day he finds Chii wrapped up in bandages in the garbage. He takes her home and spends four hours trying to turn her on. Once he does, his adventures of trying to find Chii's origins begin.
