Father Remington, despite his looks, is very old. Information from Volume 6 of the manga informs us that he fought against Chrono 54 years ago, when Chrono was to capture Mary Maggoelene. Unfortunately, he was not strong enough then to beat him, though we learn that he was only testing Chrono so he could control his anger.
Remington is usually very kind and helpful. He is actually a father-like figure to Rosette.

his age doesn't make much sense.
He was there when chrono went to get mary madgalene and alredy looked the age (if i'm not mistaken) he looks in the anime and in the anime he died around the 1980s
