Dende is a alien from planet Namek who wouldn't have become part of the Z team if it weren't for Piccolo fusing with Nail. He helps a lot in the show. Dende has the power to heal, and helped defeated Kid Buu by using the Namek Dragonballs (with the help of Kibitokai). Dende is intelligent and is always willing to help in times of need. Even though he can't fight, he is still counted as a hero.

Dende was first shown in Dragon Ball Z in the Namek saga as a little Namek boy. Although he can't fight, he has the power to heal. Dende helped wish with the Namek Dragonballs for Piccolo to be back to life (Frieza Saga), for the earthlings to be back to life (Kid Buu Saga), and for Goku to get his energy back (Kid Buu Saga). These gave the Z fighters the advantage of winning their fights. At the end of the Frieza Saga, he became the new guardian of the Earth and took Kami's place. He only died once by Frieza.

In the Majin Buu Saga, he was thrown off the lookout by Mr. Popo and survived as the others got turned into chocolate and were eaten. Then, before Kid Buu blew up the Earth, Goku transported Dende and Hercule on the planet of the Kais instead of Goten, Piccolo, and Gohan. Later Kibitokai and Dende left to planet Namek to get the Dragonballs and wish back Earth, Goku's energy, and the people on Earth.

In the Baby Saga, he fell for a mind control trick and became one of Baby's servants for a little bit, but he managed to snap out of it. Dende lives on Kami's lookout with Piccolo and Mr. Popo. No matter how much of a difference he makes, Dende is always willing to help when needed no matter what the cost.

Dende is a young Namek that Gohan and Krillin saved from Frieza and his henchman on Namek. All of the other Nameks in his village were killed by Frieza and company when they were questioning about the Dragonballs.

Dende has the ability to heal using his hands, and saves the lives of Krillin and Vegeta, and helps to heal many others.

When Piccolo and Kami fuse in the Cell Saga, a new guardian for Earth is needed. They decide on Dende and visit namek to ask if he would like the position. Dende is overjoyed to be able to see all of his friends on Earth again, and happily accepts. He stays as the guardian of Earth for the rest of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT.

Dende also, while creating the new set of Dragonballs, makes it so that two wishes can be made instead of one.
