Gotenks is a fused form of Goten and Trunks. They learned to fuse from Goku (who is Goten's father).
Goten is first created under the watchfull eye of Piccolo. They are ushered into the hyperbolic time chamber to prepare for the fight with Majiin Buu. While in the hyperbolic time chamber, they pass even Vegeta in strength. They ven transform in to super saiyans.
But before their time in the chamber was up, Buu entered the chamber to fight. During the fight, Gotenks unleashes some special attacks, such as (but not limited to) Cosmic Crusher and Kamakazi Ghost Attack. It seemed that Majiin Buu and Gotenks are equal in power levels. It was an interesting fight.

no their stregth comes from both of them not all trunks trunks may be a bit stronger but still they almost have the same power level as goku said while he was trying to teach them how to fuse

They should train more seriously.
But its obvious that most of their strength come's from Trunks.
