Last I checked, this anime was available on DVD at Amazon, and on VHS at Amazon.
A post-apocalyptic wasteland may well be the perfect battleground for one of the most intense and most brutal action titles in anime: Fist of the North Star, the story of grand fighters and the quest for survival in a world thrown out of balance.
Ken is an enlightened warrior. He has been given the moniker "Fist of the North Star." He hands are capable of killing in one punch or healing the sick. Seeking his love Julia, who was taken from him by Shin, the Fist of the South Star, Ken wanders the wastelands, fighting those who would prey on the weak and sowing the seeds of hope for those who will accept. Even as his own mission drives him onward, destiny will bring him new friends and old enemies.
Even in this very brutal and graphic title, there is hope, hope for a future.

I personally love this anime because of the depth and the themes that appears in the anime. The themes that runs through Hokuto no Ken revolves around power and how it can be either used for good or abused to the point that it itself becomes a ugly mockery of the individual abusing it.
Kenshiro, in both the anime and manga is the sole successor of the Hokuto Shinken, an horrifying martial art that target "tsubo" or pressure points. He was chosen, after his master rejected the elder 2 brothers because they were corrupted, and another brother, Toki, gave up his position because of an illness that shortened his life.
Both Raoh and Jagi were corrupted by their lust for power. Raoh's lust for both physical and governing power led to him abusing his art, as well as violating the laws of Hokuto Shinken. The laws I spoke of is the one master- one heir sucession, which meant any person who continues to practice the style after a heir is chosen automatically has a death warrant slapped on his back. In the end, Raoh pays the price by dying at Kenshiro's hand.
Jagi was the most cowardly and dishonourable of the Hokuto brothers. He was very envious of Kenshiro's success, and he tried anything possible to sully Ken's reputation. He insigated Shin's kidnapping of Yuria., and tried to impersonate Kenshiro. In the end, It was this envy and powerlust that would be Jagi's undoing, as his younger brother killed him by striking a pressure point that cause the man to turn his gun onto himself/ ... show more »
