alittle bit of why I think THIS character is the Strongest Human on DBZ. It was alot I’ve
written, so that’s why I gave alittle bit now! lol Well, tell me what you think about it
afterwards and for those who don’t agree with my opinion, I hope you still like the
Editorial! lol Enjoy!
Krillin vs Tien
For a long time now, people have been questioning who in the DragonBall series is the
“Strongest Human?”, it’s time we reached a mutual understanding. With that said, here is
my choice of who the “Strongest Human” is, and the explanation that leads to this
decision, no favorites are involved, no opinions of favoritism, just pure solid facts. My
choice of the “Strongest Human” on Earth will have to be: Krillin. There’s alot of
qualities that make a fighter what they are, Tien has proven that in some of those
qualities, he has Krillin beat, however when it comes to certain areas like strength, Krillin
would have to be my choice of being the strongest and here’s why. I’d like to first-off
explain the PowerLevels that were claimed to have been written by the DB creator
himself: Toriyama-sensei. This is where the 1st mistake was found, only a few of these
powerlevels were actually in existance and those were some of the powerlevels in
DragonBall Z when the scouters were in use, DragonBall never had powerlevels to begin
with. The only time a PowerLevel could actually exist is when the scouters were used to
estimate a person’s power or if it’s stated officially within the series what a character’s
powerlevel is (Example: Frieza stating his power is at 1,000,000 in his 1st
Transformation), other than that, those other levels shouldn’t exist. Here’s a quote from
my Rival Editor who I should say, inspired me to write this: “Tien first entered the series
stronger than Krillin, and all throughout the rest of Dragonball, it's a given fact that Tien
is the strongest of the two. For one thing, there is actual empirical evidence, in the form
of official power levels written by Akira Toriyama himself.” and another from my Rival
stating: “In the first saga of DBZ, the Saiyan saga, there are still power levels which prove
Tien's superiority.” Noticed they said: “still”, meaning they’re implying that the previous
story, DragonBall, was also carrying powerlevels, another piece of evidence I’ve found
from a DB website that also proves these two statements wrong, says this: “The "Perfect
File" books are reference guides to the series and often contain character and attack
names and other clarifiations which are not present in the manga or anime themselves.
There are no current plans to release these books in the US and they are out of print even
in Japan. Many fans however question how canon the actual books are. The books were
not actually written by Akira Toriyama. The given books are often disregarded by some
fans who find inconsistencies in them. One notable example is that Nappa's power level is
stated to be 4,000 in the books, though this is never given in the manga along with
assortment of other readings given. Both the manga and Daizenshuu state Goku's power
level during the fight to be 8,000 which means he was twice Nappa's power level
suggesting he should have had an easy time defeating him without using Kaiou-Ken .
This is not true as Nappa manages to trade blows with Goku and after barely deflecting
Nappa's strongest attack, comments that the fight will take forever without the use of
Kaiou-ken, contradicting the stated information in the Daizenshuu.” These books
contained the powerlevels that were included within the PowerLevel Charts, with this, I
state to my Rival that if they were referring to the Powerlevel Charts at that time when
writting their Editorial, their statement that I’ve quoted, would be incorrect! That does it
with the Charts, next I’ll explain bit by bit the Chapters of the DB series and with this
explanation I hope will make even the biggest Tien Shinhan or Tenshinhan (As most
prefer to call him) fan out there, understand why he was always #2 and Krillin was always
#1 and just so were clear on this, I’m using a mix of both Manga and Anime references
from the series, so don’t worry, any info that you find that you feel would condradict this
Statement, I’ll take time to prove it’s significance and if I miss one, just let me know! lol
In DragonBall, before realizing the power of his true heritage, Goku and Krillin were
pretty even in everything they accomplished together (if you exclude the times Krillin
cheated lol) as Master Roshi’s Students, with Goku always being atleast 1% over Krillin
since he’s a Saiyan (or simply just different because the existence of the Saiyans wasn’t
until later on and as Toriyama answered in one of his questions from a fan, DragonBall
was originally ment to be a Modern Day-Version of another story called Saiyuki). When
Goku and Krillin entered the 21st World Tournament, both boys fought their disguised
teacher Master Roshi. Both boys were able to give their Master Roshi something to work
for, but were ultimately defeated in the end, Krillin because Roshi was faster and Goku
because Roshi was taller. Though they lost the tournament, Master Roshi had admitted
that the only reason he didn’t want his boys to win because both Goku and Krillin made it
to a level in their strength and skills that made them Advanced Fighters, but wanted them
to become stronger, meaning that as long as Goku and Krillin continue to think someone
out there is stronger than them, they’ll work even harder to become stronger themselves.
After the Tournament, Goku went to search for his GrandFather’s 4-Star DragonBall,
while Krillin stayed with Master Roshi on his Island and continued his training (with
Yamcha becoming Roshi’s newest student sometime later on). Sometime after the defeat
of the Red Ribbon Army, Goku then continued his training on his own in different parts
of the world and somewhere in his travels, Goku met the then shady Tien Shinhan and his
friend Chiaotzu as they were conning people out of their goods, by making them believe
that they were heroes. The 22nd World Tournament had finally roled by and it was there
that Yamcha and Krillin met and battled the Two Students from the Craine Hermit’s
School for the 1st time. Now for those who think that Yamcha is the strongest among
Krillin and Tien, make no mistake, Yamcha is no slacker, and has been known to pull off
some pretty good moves from time to time, but in those days, if you were to actually put
him on a scale with Tien and Krillin to see: “Who was stronger than Who?” Yamcha
without a doubt is definately the weakest among the 3! In his days as a Desert Bandit,
Yamcha lost in his battles against Young Goku many times, despite their size difference
(this statement is for those who think Tien is superior to Krillin mainly because of their
size difference. Size isn’t everything, not to mention everyone is all grown up and more
experienced than they were on DragonBall, so I doubt anyone will make the same mistake
Goku did with Jackie Chun). Yamcha managed to get the Wolf Fang Fist (or Fist of the
Wolf Fang, which ever you wanna call it) off Goku just one time and that’s only because
Goku (as a child and sometimes as an adult) has a thing of losing concentration when he’s
hungry (face it, he practically acts like he’s dying of hunger if he isn’t fed Period!), other
than that, much like his comeback in their 2nd fight, Goku would’ve easily beaten
Yamcha to the ground. Another example, was when Yamcha had participated in the 21st
World Tournament, he was training his very hardest for countless months, until the due
date had finally arrived, only to be beaten by Jackie Chun in the 1st half of the
Tournament Finals with Little to No Effort! If that wasn’t enough to convice you of
Yamcha’s weakness in those days, just listen to this. During the 22nd World Tournament
Finals, Yamcha battled Tien, and as mentioned, Yamcha was pulling out moves that
shown him to be a pretty decent fighter. Yamcha managed to hold his own throughout
that whole fight as him and Tien were evenly matched: At The Time! Yamcha even
gained a slight upperhand over Tien, when he introduced an upgraded version of his Wolf
Fang Fist: The Wolf Fang Blowing Wind, that was able to knock the 3-Eyed Human off
his feet. However, there was one mistake that Yamcha didn’t count on and that’s how
aggressive Tien can be (or was back then) and when this happens, he’s put in a position
where he has to use his Mental Powers (which later on I’ll explain how that works, but
right now here’s a small example for the time being.). When Yamcha went for another
strike, Tien stood his ground and began focusing his energy into increasing his defense
(hence the reason Tien’s muscles look like they were getting so huge, with his mental
abilities, he can focus all the power in his body to any area he wanted it and in this case,
he used it to increase his defensive strength.), as long as Tien did this, none of Yamcha’s
Physical Attacks did any damage to him what so ever! It was also thanks to the power of
Tien’s Mind, that he was able to rebound Yamcha’s first ever Kamehameha, as he once
again stood his ground and focused all of his mentality on “U-turning” the blast! One
other ability Tien had that wasn’t found out until later on in the Tournament, was his
Third Eye, which I believe (and you’ll find out why) was the only way Tien was able to
see Yamcha’s Wolf Fang Blowing Wind coming the 2nd time around, because that attack
was too fast for normal any eyes to see (which is why Tien got tooken down by it before).
It was then Tien got the jump on Yamcha as he began to lose focus, he was taken down
HARD and as the final exclaimation point, Tien broke his leg! This left Yamcha disabled,
meaning he could no longer continue the fight and was defeated by Tien in the 1st half of
the World Tournament Finals. The Semi-Finals came and Tien took on the returning
World Champ Jackie Chun and needless to say, their fight was undeniably the most
intense evenly matched battle ever, as both fighters bared their all and neither one was
showing any signs of quiting! The fight between Jackie and Tien however would end in a
climatic stalemate, because from out of nowhere, Jackie unexpectedly jumped out of the
ring eliminating himself, letting Tien win that round saying that Tien will soon learn an
important lesson before the end of the Tournament (one of those lessons would be that
Tien will find out he’s not as Pure Evil as his Master Tsurusennin told him and simply
out of respect Jackie had for Tien). Let’s Rewind back for a minute to the 1st half of the
Tournament Finals when Krillin faced Tien’s little buddy Chiaotzu. Now Chiaotzu, for a
little guy, posed himself as a big problem, for one, his ability to levitate meaning that
even if Krillin knocked him out the ring (which Krillin did plenty of times), Chiaotzu can
float and stop himself from hitting the outside area, then there was Chiaotzu’s most
dangerous attack that threatened to fry Krillin alive (like it did the guy in the bandages),
the signature move of Mercenary Tao: The Dodon Wave! With these kind of setbacks it
seems like Krillin stands no chance of winning this battle, well Krillin did managed to
overcome this adversity of his and defeated Chiaotzu! Krillin actually had Chiaotzu
beaten the whole time they battled, like I said the only thing that was keeping him in the
fight was his ability to levitate, but soon enough Krillin eventually found a weakness in
Chiaotzu that had clenched the battle for him, the boy was mathematically challenged. lol
While Chiaotzu was trying to keep up with Krillin’s counting, it distracted him long
enough for Krillin to finally knock him out the ring! That’s one possible way that Krillin
could beat Tien, since him and Chiaotzu are from the same Martial Arts school, their
fighting styles were the same, the only 4 major differences between Tien and Chiaotzu, is
that Tien trained himself to be physically as well as mentally powerful, he’s not
mathematically challenged (lol), because of his Physical Prowess, Tien knows more
fighting techniques from Chiaotzu, and he’s got that Third Eye! Another reason Krillin
can beat Tien is because Krillin came closer than anyone to defeating his Martial Arts
Buddy: Goku (And Goku himself was stronger than Tien back then)! Both boys battled
eachother in the semi-finals and much like the Jackie vs Tien Bout, their battle was just as
intense and just as even, for both boys were able to give eachother something to work for!
Then suddenly just as the fight began to escalate even further, Krillin once again managed
to exploit his opponent’s weakness and would try to use it to his advantage.
Remembering Goku has a tail and that everytime it’s grabbed he loses his strength,
Krillin went for it! By grabbing Goku’s tail, Krillin would’ve had him instantly subdued
and tossed out of the ring, ultimately winning the match and advancing to the finals, but
unfortunately for Krillin, Goku trained his tail beyond it’s old weakness and once again
he had a 1% up over his Pal. Goku regained control, then proceeded to knock Krillin
senseless with fast and ferocious attacks, resulting in his defeat and Goku moving on to
the finals. That was the only trait holding Krillin back in those days, he always had the
strength, power, and experience, but lacked in speed and to beat a guy like Tien, you need
to beyond an acceptionally fast person. The trick to beating a guy like Tien in those days,
you had to beat his Third Eye, if you can beat that, you already defeated Tien, because as
far as defending yourself from his attacks or attacks from any other fighter for that matter,
is only a matter of timing either when to dodge or defend against them. Moving on to the
finals, here’s another Quote from my Rival stating his views on Tien: “At the 22nd
Budokai, where he first appears, he actually defeats Goku to win the entire tournament!”
I’m sure by the expression in that statement, this person was either implying that Tien
was as strong as, or even stronger than Goku at one time, which either way, isn’t true! By
my observance of Tien in the 22nd World Tournament, I would have to say that he was
just as strong as Roshi, and if that was so, Tien couldn’t be as strong as or stronger than
Goku, because Goku at that time, was now at a level in his strength and skills that even
surpassed his Old Master! Tien, overall, was clearly outmatched, because he wasn’t even
able to takedown Roshi and vice-versa, meaning both fighters were at a stalemate, plus
Roshi quit the match anyway, so there’s no actual guarantee that Tien was stronger than
him (unlike Goku during DBZ, who did admit that Cell was stronger than him, therefore
resulting into quitting the fight, I added that in just in case someone had something to say
about that! lol). Basically, out of Roshi or Tien, whoever fought Goku, would’ve lost
regardless, the only reason Tien lasted as long as he did in the Finals was because of
Goku holding back the bulk of his true abilities which allowed Tien to gain an early
advantage over him, as well as other factors. In the finals when Goku and Tien faced off,
Goku shown how Tien’s Third Eye could be beaten, when he introduced a new technique
that made “Phantom” images of himself. The trick of Tien’s Third Eye is to see the
“Truth” as most would say since it represents the eye of his mind, meaning it can see
what normal eyes can not. When Goku defeated Krillin, to everyone else it looked like it
was done with one hit, but Tien’s Third Eye actually revealed it to be several hits! The
point here is that Tien’s Third Eye can make an invisible physical object appear, if an
object is physical, then that makes it possible to see, but if it’s a physical object that
happens to be moving at a remarkably fast pace, it then becomes impossible to see. Tien’s
Third Eye also comes in handy towards other “fake-off” moves like the “After Image”
technique, by easily detecting the real image from the fakes, but what if Tien was put in a
position were he had an oppenent that was even too fast for his Third Eye to follow,
hence Goku’s “Phantom” Technique (I have problems remembering the full name of this
move so that’s why it’s in quotations). With this move, Goku was able to project images
of himself that were after images, but in much more solid form, making them more
visible for the eye to see and if those images can be seen by regular eyes, then it’s visible,
meaning Tien’s Third Eye couldn’t discern it since it wasn’t invisible or blurry. Since the
fakes were physical enough to see, Tien’s Third Eye believed the images to be real and
thanks to the “Phantom” Images, Tien’s Third Eye can no longer help him and he was
even forced to wait for the copies to completely diminished for Goku to show himself! A
situation took place sometime during the match when Master Tsurusennin instructed
Chiaotzu to sneak attack Goku from within, with that said, Chiaotzu used his psychic
powers to hit Goku, and everytime this happened, Goku would be stopped dead in his
tracks giving Tien the unfair opportunity to strike back. After regaining the upperhand,
Tien was soon preparing to give Goku a devastating blow that would kill him, as Master
Tsurusennin ordered him to do as pay back for Goku defeating Tsurusennin’s younger
brother Mercenary Tao. However, Tien refused, as he didn’t want to lose his only chance
of becoming the World Champion, he then told Chiaotzu to stop listening to Master
Tsurusennin and to stop cheating for him, as he wanted to defeat Goku with his own
hands. Too bad for Tien though, it wasn’t going to be that easy, because now that Goku
had time to regain his barings, he was back on the attack and even used his “Phantom”
move again to converted into an unbeatable attack stratedgy! By moving his arms at a
very fast pace, Goku made it appear he grew 6 exrta arms (giving him a total of
outmatch Tien’s Four Arms Technique! It was by this time around, Tien lost his
upperhand which he had (some, if not mostly) throughout the duration of the battle and
was soon forced into using more drastic maneuvers. Since Tien couldn’t put Goku away
as easily as he thought, he went for the next best move: The Tri-Beam. Tien knew he
stood no chance of winning against Goku in head on battle, so he decided to eliminate
Goku without even touching him, by blowing away the very ring Goku stood on! Tien
fired the attack, completely obliterating the Tournament Ring and would seem he took
Goku with it since he was standing there at the time. But Goku escaped the Tri-Beam and
was floating high up in the air with the levitating Tien, where he then launched his final
assault. Goku fired a Kamehameha faking-off Tien thinking that the blast was meant for
him, but would actually use it to propel himself directly into Tien like a missle and
rammed him with a HARD head-bunt right in the abdomen, knocking Tien totally
unconcious! Both fighters began making their descent to the ground below, Goku had
enough energy left to do one more Kamehameha, it was weak, but enough to push him
further into the air making his descent slower than Tien’s, meaning that Goku was going
to win his 1st World Tournament! Unfortunately however the battle would not end this
way, by I needless to say sudden twist of fate, Goku was unexpectedly hit by a truck
causing him to hit the ground just 1 second earlier than Tien did. As the obvious ending
result to this, Tien defeated Goku and won the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, by
luck and not by skill. There are those people who actually thought Tien was superior to
Goku at that time which was also why I wrote this: Tien was never superior to Goku or as
strong as him, he beat Goku by an accident, an interferance (which ever way you want to
look at it), not by his own hands like he claimed he would! Plus, Tien was knocked
unconcious, he awakened to realize he just won the Tournament, if anything, he thought
he was going to lose too, I guess most people didn’t want to see it that way, all they were
focused on was that Tien beat Goku. Overall, Tien will never be stronger than or equaled
to Goku, especially now on DragonBall Z. Krillin like Goku, could’ve beaten Tien that
day, remember, Krillin came closer than anyone to defeating Goku and they were equals
up until Goku got serious! The only difference maker in Krillin’s battle with Goku, was
that Goku depended on the use of both his speed as well as his strength to beat him, none
of Goku’s attacks at 1st was keeping Krillin down, so it was then Goku had begun
revealing the depth of his true strength! Tien was able to keep up with Goku’s Agility
because of his Third Eye, but that was also rendered ineffective and like Krillin before
him, Tien was at the mercy of Goku’s superior speed, but unlike Krillin, Goku used his
speed to outsmart Tien and not outrun him! Pretty much, without his Third Eye, Tien was
just as fast as Krillin was back then, either Goku or Krillin could’ve won the Tournament
and Tien knows this as he even told Goku at the end that he should’ve been the one to
win. Why do I say Krillin would’ve also won, is because of this, Tien during that time,
was depending on his Third Eye a bit too much to help him scope out his enemies for
him, but by following Goku’s example, Tien can be beaten! The “extra speed” came from
his Third Eye, as he was using it the majority of the time (Being able to see Yamcha’s
Wolf Fang Blowing Wind coming the 2nd time before it was used, seeing Goku’s attacks
that did in Krillin, etc.), unlike Goku, Krillin didn’t have to be faster than Tien to beat
him, because in Krillin’s case, throughout the Tournament Finals, Krillin had developed a
nack for finding his opponent’s weakness and using it to his advantage. If you recall,
Krillin found Chiaotzu’s weakness and used it to defeat him, Krillin seeing that Goku left
himself wide open, managed to grab his tail and Goku actually felt a slight hint of pain
when it was grabbed, momentarily falling face 1st on the Tournament Ring. Basically, if
Krillin were to have fought Tien in 22nd World Tournament, it would’ve only been a
matter of time until he realized that Tien’s biggest weakness lied within his biggest
Trump Card: his Third Eye! Being the resourceful person Krillin has becomed, he
would’ve found his own ways of deception to beat it, from where Krillin was lacking the
speed that Goku had, he made up for it with his intellegence during battle! Onto the
Piccolo Daimaou Saga, it was at this time Krillin met his untimely demise at the hands of
Piccolo’s son Tambourine, this is when Master Roshi explained Piccolo’s Origin and how
his Old Master Mutaito used the “Mafuba Technique” that locked Piccolo away for many
years. Tien soon started training to learn this “Technique” after the deaths of Roshi and
Chiaotzu. This is where another mistake was made, Tien trained himself to use the
“Mafuba Technique”, otherwise known to us as the Evil Containment Wave, true after
the 22nd World Tournament Tien started training again, but only to learn this technique,
he didn’t become stronger, otherwise he would’ve done better than what he did when he
faced Piccolo Daimaou. This means that if Tien was really superior or equaled to Goku
during DragonBall, he would’ve defeated Piccolo Daimaou on his own and as for Tien
surviving against Piccolo’s Son Drum from where Krillin was killed by Tambourine is
concerned, doesn’t count. I stated this, because some people claim that Tien surviving an
attack from one of Piccolo’s Spawn and Krillin’s Death by Tambourine makes him
weaker than Tien. Tambourine Death Blowed Krillin to the Head, from where Drum
didn’t Death Blow Tien, but merely beat him to the ground, not to mention Goku himself
was overpowered by Tambourine at one time and would’ve died too if Tambourine
wasn’t already convinced that he’d killed Goku. If anything, it just means that luck was
on Tien’s side at that time since Drum’s thrashing upon him was interrupted by Goku’s
appearance, other than that, he had as much chance of surviving as Goku and Krillin did,
which was slim to none (especially Goku who just barely manages to cheat death more
than once during this Saga!)! Since Piccolo Daimaou was obviously too strong of an
opponent to battle, The Evil Containment Wave was used to seal him away inside an
Electric Container. Regardless of how strong Piccolo Daimaou is, the Evil Containment
Wave is used to lock up Pure Evil Beings, which was exactly the case with him! However
despite Tien’s efforts, his plan was thwarted by another of Piccolo’s Spawn named Drum.
Drum put himself in the way of the Evil Containment Wave and was captured in his
father’s place, this resulted in the cancellation of the move and soon Tien was forced into
a fight with Drum, but was nowhere near a match for him and was defeated with ease, for
those who thought Goku couldn’t beat Piccolo Daimaou without Tien’s help and even
saying that he was an essential tool towards Goku’s victory, quoting my rival: “Tien
remains the second strongest of the protagonists: being instrumental in Goku's victory
against King Piccolo.”, Goku was quite capable in defeating both Piccolo Daimaou and
Drum without any assistance, thanks to the Altered Divine Water, he became strong
enough to take care of himself, on top of that, almost anyone of the Protagonists (that
were fighters of course) compared with Goku in those days, would be considered the 2nd
Strongest, not just Tien. True, Tien was the 2nd Strongest person in the fight against
Piccolo Daimaou, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the 2nd Strongest Protagonist, plus
Goku was a resourceful little guy back then, so Tien’s help wasn’t really needed, as Goku
even stated this fact himself, but hey, even still, if Goku had that kind of energy left to
fight with Piccolo Daimaou, he could’ve dodged his attack, meaning Tien coming to
Goku’s Aid was really no differance maker! After Piccolo Daimaou’s defeat and the lives
the fallen heroes were restored, everyone began their training for the 23rd World
Tournament, while Goku trained on Kami’s Lookout, Tien, Krillin, and Yamcha were
training at Korin’s Tower. The 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament came and Majunior
made his presence known as he came to the contest for the accomplishment of one goal:
The Death of Goku. In the semi-finals of the Tournament, Goku faced Tien in what had
appeared to be an evenly battled rematch and to prove his position as the strongest
human, my Rival states that Tien gave: “Goku a truly amazing rematch in the second
round of the tournament.”, in their opinion maybe, but not to some others and what I
mean by others, I’m talking about Majunior. Majunior watched Goku’s Fight with Tien
and needless to say, he was disgusted by what he saw, because he believed Goku to be
much stronger than what he was showing. Soon Tien began to show Goku how fast he’s
gotten (without the use of his Third Eye) and even learned a new move called the 12-Eyes
Technique (Later to be known as the Multi-Form) that knocked Goku out of the sky as the
copies fired eye lasers from their Third Eyes. Of course, this sudden event made Majunior
laugh to himself, even implying within in his own thoughts of how pathetic it was that
Goku was on the vurge of losing to someone that wasn’t on his level, but then Goku had
suddenly regained his barings and caught everyone (but Majunior) by surprise as he
effortlessly defeated Tien. Though Goku vs Tien “The Rematch” was an awesome fight,
it was already made obvious of who was going to win that Bout, from Goku’s higher
level of training to his sudden upset over Tien, that rematch can be descirbed as alot of
good things, but to use a term like: “truly amazing”, would be a sign of true exaggeration.
Another quote from my Rival trying to prove Tien’s Strength, referring to him: “easily
defeating a cybernetically enhanced version of Mercenary Tao, one of Goku's greatest
rivals”, yeah he was one of Goku’s Greastest Rivals, 3 years before the 22nd World
Tournament to be exact! Goku at one time, did suffer defeat by Tao, but after 3 days of
training on Korin’s Tower, Goku returned the favor. Tao may have had his skills
heightened after becoming a Cyborg, but if 3 days of training on Korin’s Tower could
defeat the Human Tao, 3 years of training will practically make Cyborg Tao look like a
joke, he’s stronger than before, but he’s no Piccolo Daimaou! On top of that, Tien’s
victory wasn’t as easy as my Rival makes it sound, since it was Tao who left the scar
going across Tien’s Chest that he still carries on DBZ, if Tien didn’t move out the way
fast enough, Tao would’ve easily claimed a vital organ since that cut was pretty deep!
Overall, if the fight against Tao was that simple, then Tien would’ve easily cameout of
that match unscathed, and since Krillin and Yamcha trained on Korin’s Tower for the
same three years time, they also could’ve defeated Tao, so just because Tien did fight him
and they didn’t, doesn’t make him any stronger, like my Rival claimed in this quote: “in
DB, he seemed to benefit more from training, constantly staying stronger than Krillin”,
that’s far from being accurate. Rewinding back to the QuaterFinals of Krillin vs
Majunior, Majunior believed Krillin to be just another weak fighter standing in the way of
his eventful battle against Goku and that this fight would be easily won. However, as the
eyes of Majunior witnessed, Krillin gave the Overconfident and Powerful Demon a fight
to remember. Even though Krilln cameout that battle “Short-Handed”, Majunior was so
shocked at how strong Krillin was that he was left Speechless, Roshi even credited Krillin
for putting up a good fight against his powerful opponent. Majunior came to the
Tournament with the sole purpose of killing Goku, but after his fight with Krillin, he
began to worry about their being other fighters like him coming up and possibly being
even stronger, so with this in mind, Majunior has now made it his obligation to kill Goku
along with the other fighters in the Tournament to eliminate his future upcoming
competition. Majunior was pretty Powerful back then, the only one that was actually on
his level was Goku. However, what I’m saying is that neither Tien or Krillin were on
Majunior and Goku’s level, yet Krillin managed to achieve what Tien couldn’t that day:
Putting fear in the Heart of Majunior! Majunior seeing Tien fight Goku clearly wasn’t
impressed (especially seeing how easily he was done in by Goku), while his fight with
Krillin on the otherhand, left him a little worried, for Majunior to be as strong as he was
for him to show fear of Krillin where he didn’t show fear in Tien, trust me that’s saying
something! Before moving on, I’d like to take this time to give a description about both
characters. During DB, Krillin would be seen as the timid, wise-craking, sometimes
troublemaking, and let’s not leave out comedic character, where as Tien was always
serious, focused, and determined. Along with the description by my Rival: “Look at the
differences in their characters. Tien is a recluse who dedicated his entire life to training
and is a serious warrior. Krillin is most often a practical joker and retired from fighting
after the battle with Cell so he could settle down and start a family.”, this would make
Krillin look like the weaker fighter compared to Tien, but overtime with his rivalry gone
friendship with Goku, his constant training on Roshi’s Island (yes constant, Krillin has
other outfits, but would usually be seen wearing his Martial Arts Gi), like Goku, Krillin
became a dedicated Martial Artist with the goal of becoming the best. As far as being
timid goes, Krillin before engaging in any fight is always afraid and mainly from what I
see, is from out of anxiety (fear of the unknown). Krillin would usually be seen
questioning himself saying things similar to: “Do I have the Strength to beat this Guy?”
or “Maybe it was a bad idea to fight after all.”, fear of the unknown is common even
among the greatest of fighters (example: Gohan as a child always doubted himself of
being powerful, yet always had the strength to take on any opposition and even Piccolo
was seen putting himself down when it came to the battle against the Androids saying
things like: “I could’ve trained harder, I could’ve becomed stronger,” yet we saw he did
just fine.), this lack of confidence happens all the time, so really you can’t put Krillin
down for that. It’s actually a good thing Krillin constantly humbles himself like this when
you think about it, it helps build a better character, meaning that no matter what amount
of training he’s under gone, he feels there’s always room to improve (Hence the lesson
Roshi taught Goku and Krillin to do since day 1! lol). Master Roshi seeing Krillin lose to
Majunior, was still proud of the fact that Krillin was able to hold his own during the fight
and more importantly had changed his persona, as Krillin shown how much better focus,
respect, and discipline he has now than when he was younger. Let’s not leave out that
whenever Krillin needs the courage, he has friends like Goku to encourage him that he
has the skillls and strength to beat his opposition, even now on DBZ as Krillin’s position
was switched to a Comic Relief character, just because he doesn’t act accordingly to his
title as the Strongest, doesn’t mean he isn’t. As a matter of fact, it’s been made obvious
that you can’t go by a Person’s Characteristics to see who’s the strongest, for instance,
Goku is a fun-loving and carefree person, who’s love for fighting, is matched by his love
for his family, friends, and food! lol Then you have Vegeta, who, like Tien, started off as
a recluse, constantly distancing himself from others and training all day to perfect himself
into becoming the: “UnSurpassable Warrior”, but as we see even by contrasting Goku’s
Big Heart to Vegeta’s Seriousness, who’s still the Strongest out of that deal!
Improvement and Humbleness were two factors that Tien didn’t worry about in those
days, because like I said he was a very determined person, meaning he was dedicated
enough to the Martial Arts as it is. However, the problem with this is that Tien can
sometimes, if not most of time allow his determination to be the best fighter lead to an
overconfident persona, in otherwords there are times that he believes that the amount of
training he’s already acquired was enough to be superior against any fighter he competed
against! An example of this overconfidence would be Tien’s past battles with Goku, in
the 22nd World Tournament Tien believed he had Goku’s fighting style all figured out
and that he would be taken down with no problem. However, as we saw to be the result of
that, Goku almost (well basically he did) defeated Tien and would’ve won his 1st World
Tournament. Then there was the 23rd World Tournament when Tien thought that his new
found speed and Multi-Form Ability would’ve had Goku completely outmatched, but as
we saw to be the result of that, Tien was still no where near as fast as Goku and as far as
his Multi-Form Technique is concerned, though it’s useful in some accounts, it has got to
be the worst technique Tien has ever learned! Multi-Form is a good technique when
plotting a surprise attack like an ambush, but battling against someone in a head on
1-on-1 battle using this technique was not the smartest move Tien could’ve ever made.
Goku (as well as the other Sayians later on in DragonBall Z) have a thing of trying their
opponent’s strength out before making the decision of fighting with their full power,
meaning Goku would be caculating his opponent’s fighting style and what is their true
strength in battle. If Goku feels that his opposition is weak, he’ll try to hold back, if it’s a
decent fighter he’ll up the ante abit, but if it’s an opponent that’s threatening to take him
down, that’s when Goku gets serious, Tien was strong, but he was nowhere near to being
close to that 3rd option. Goku throughout his match with Tien had smile on his face (I’ll
explain the smile’s importance sometime later) while Tien was baring his all, then there
was a point in the battle when Goku stopped fighting to take the time to explain all of
Tien’s mistakes and one he pointed out in particular was his Multi-Form! When using
this technique, Tien literally becomes 4 splitted versions of himself, meaning he’s giving
off 25% of his overall strength to the other halves and since this was the case, Tien was
making himself weaker instead of stronger, ultimately making himself an easy target for
Goku to pick off. Even without the Multi-Form Tien lost either way, because those
dopplegangers all represented 100% of his total that did knock Goku off his feet, but with
cheer and not strain, he got back up, so either split up or whole, Tien just couldn’t put
Goku away! Tien also has the tendacy to imply to his opponents to don’t get cocky and
yet whenever he sees that he has the slightest upperhand over his competition, he let’s his
ego get the better of him, implying to his opponents that they don’t stand a chance. If you
take the time to notice, Tien at times can show himself to be just like Vegeta,
overconfident when having the upperhand, yet quick to anger and show frustration when
they can’t have it their way.
