I think I just got bored with the labeling and genres. I tended to grow more into Funkish rock like the Infectious Grooves, Red Hot Chili Peppers (first,second, third attempts) and Jane's Addiction.
If I like it, I like it...and I agree with a single song being in a separate genre. Usually it's common for a band to put out mushed down crap to get into mainstream and off the college airwaves.

Greenday comes to mind on that tactic.
