Absolute Anime

Hey guys.
I recently discovered this anime on morning television, and I want to know if I should stick to watching the morning news as I sit in front of the TV half-asleep, drinking coffee before school, -or should I make the switch to watching One Piece?
Obviously I have missed half the series, seeing as I have only seen one episode*. It seems like a really kiddy sort of anime, though the animation is pretty damn good.

So, can someone explain to me the jist of things without spoiling the story and explain to me why this anime is worth me watching?
other anime I like include Samurai X, Cowboy bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and quite a few others. So maybe that will help you tell if this anime is one I'd like to watch.



* In the episode I saw, some little girl was mad at her mother who apparently adopted her, so she ran away and then some group of monsters visited the mother etc etc, you'll know what I mean if you've seen it.

The show is good. it's supposed to make you feel like a kid.

One Piece in its original form is quite an entertaining show. Its main premise is rather simplistic, but enjoyable nonetheless. To put it simply, Monkey D. Luffy is a lad who swallowed a magical fruit, changing his body into rubber. He is on a quest to become the greatest pirate. And that is the most gemeral premise. The anime is more than 200 episodes long, and many subplots are also developed.The show is a bit unique in that its main premise does not take itself too seriously, while (some of) its subplots are quite deep and thought provoking.

Despite the odd premise of the show, it manages to be highly entertaining, and manages to develop its characters very well. However, though I highly recommend the original, avoid the TV version like the plague. It probably seems kiddy on TV because most of the mature chunks of the show have been altered to cater to a much younger demographic. I can easily say that One Piece is definitely not a show for younger children, it is quite violent and at times can be quite graphic with blood; 4kids entertainment made a lot of changes to have it readjusted for the 8+ demographic.

Locke, judging from your tastes, I would think that you probably will enjoy the original version. However, I doubt you will like the altered version too much, as it has been downgraded and sanitized quite badly.

Damnit. I don't think I have access to the non-altered version in Australia.

yeah the stupid for kids one on tonami sucks why cant they have the original one more people would watch it

Whoever dubed One Peice was obviously retarded >_>...I mean,What's the point?...No one watches the dubed except for 11 and 12 year-olds...It really does make you feel like a kid again ^_^;

well you do have to remember....not everyone has access to the orginal version.....some of us have to deal with the dubbed version.......but it does have its good points

Gah, I have to watch the one on Toonami. It makes me sad how much they cut out of it (and made it so damn obvious) so, I read the manga. It maybe behind the show right now, but it is not edited at all...except for Zoro's (Zolo) name. Didn't wanna get sued, I guess...

And Sanji smokes in the original version...He doesn't suck on a loli-pop like some kind of perverted dude all day...>_>...I just wish they wouldn't cut out so many of the good scenes...the English voice actors are terrible,too...

I agree with what the above people say, the 4kids version is butcherd behond human thought consumption. Kaizoku-fansubs (Can I say that here?) has some good sub episodes of it, very easy to download, and only requires an up to date bittorrent. If you don't want to have to go through a whole lot to watch the sub version, you can always read the One Piece scans that they have up for view over the internet.


Also, and I am deeply offended by this, but why do you say "Don't join this discussion unless you're intelligent" in your subject? First off, this is a forum. EVERYONE can post in your topic if they so wish to, don't discriminate against other users here, because you have no right to do so. If someone post a certain way that you do not like, just ignore the way they posted it and answer them. That's all you have to do, you don't have to insult this forum and it's members by posting such an assinine subject topic and try to break the users here into groups and consider yourself and these people "intelligent" like they're superior or something. That's just bloody stupid, and makes YOU look like a fool.

The edited version is good in the morning when your brain isn't functioning, that way you miss the dumb parts.If you realy want to take the time to peice together the plot its worth the time. However the original is the best. 4kids is not the best place to look for anime though.

yeah definately....that used to have shaman king too....i never really liked the anime but ive been reading the manga in shoen jump lately and the manga is so much better so that makes me believe that the orginal version is also very good....oh and sorry for getting off topic

Yeah. Shaman King, One Piece, and YuGiOh are all better in the manga and/or the uncut versions. America keeps insisting on screwing with crap from Japan because they don't want to scar our minds. Oh, but they have no problem showing commercials with Jessica Simpson in a G-string.

there has been america-made cartoons worse than some of the worst animes.....and im pretty sure little kids these days don't mind blood or violence
