Absolute Anime

The 4Kids translation method:

1.) Take a really popular, yet really violent anime.
2.) Remove all blood. Replace it all with dirt or bruises, this includes blood on swords and stuff. If a sword has blood on it, replace the blood with a bruise (How the hell can a sword get a bruise?).
3.) Remove all swearing.
4.) Edit out all guns. Guns that don't get edited out get turned into a glowing laser gun.
5.) Reduce breast size.
6.) Add more clothes to female characters, even if that character doesn't have even a single patch of visible skin.
7.) Remove all scenes that involve intimacy.
8.) Throw away episodes that you deem to be too violent.
9.) Edit out anything that is smoked, such as cigarettes. You may leave the cigarette smoke if you wish (An example of this is One Piece. One of the enemy characters smokes in the Japanese version, but in the English version he doesn't smoke, yet smoke still comes out of his mouth).
10.) Get ungodly horrid voice actors for all of the roles.
11.) Remove any and all booze seen in the show.
12.) Remove all references to Japanese culture.
13.) If a character even gets their clothes ripped in the Japanese version, edit it so that the clothes doesn't get ripped.
14.) Rename all of the characters.
15.) Replace the opening and ending themes.
16.) Shorten and edit all scenes with fighting.
17.) Edit out all violence.
18.) Edit out everything that makes the show good.
19.) Edit out the shows soul.
20.) Put the show on the air.

And that's how they do it.

Otherwise, I think you've got everything.

I hate 4Kids, their English dubs are some of the worst I've ever seen. How many more shows are they going to ruin? I don't know why they bother, to be honest, they've never done a good job.

4kids is doing what they think is best, but i bet it reallt p*ss's the people who made anime in the first place. i do not watch 4kids Anime.

I believe the worst thing to happen to anime are fans who like to whinge about dubbing companies. Your claims, like many others about 4kids, are SO overexaggerated. For instance:

False. This is like saying 4kids is dubbing Bastard! or Gantz. But no, they're dubbing shows that are already aimed at kids in Japan... Sonic X, Shaman King, One Piece. And seriously:

Well, it's a funny thing that the shows 4kids dub remain so popular over here, considering they have no soul or anything worth watching. You know, I began watching Yuugi-ou as the 4kids dub, and then bought the series in Japanese. The differences were not so great that I would consider it butchered, or a completely different show. The only single thing that irked me was the bad voice cast for the dub, but I pretty much dislike any dub voice cast.

Every fan has a personal preference, and that's fine. But I'm sick of the ridiculous attacks against 4kids. They're not dumbing down anything that's full of rampant violence or sex, and I like the fact that they're giving kids some interesting anime to watch - I don't think all anime should be aimed at teens and adults. If fans really love the show, they'll dig around for the unedited original (it does upset me that 4kids stopped releasing the uncut stuff). Other than that, kudos to any dubbing company that's exposing more fans to more anime. We wouldn't know half the titles we do now if it weren't for them.
