I read one of the issues of Newtype. I never heard of it until my friend let me borrow one. I borrowed the January one. I liked it. Each issue gives out free poster, manga book, and DVD right? How cool is that?

Though it keeps the same name as the Japanese Newtype, the magazine is not translated from the Japanese one. Newtype USA is done by a completely different team of writers that work for ADV Films. I see no point in buying Newtype, as ADV primarily uses it as advertising for new anime series ( and expensive advertising at that.) With the cost of a single Newtype magazine, I could buy a single Anime DVD. An I would rather buy a DVD than pay for a shiny pretty ad. And I have also noticed that quite a few of their articles have glaring errors in them, the worst of which was the Rose of Versailles article.

I have subscribed to "Newtype USA" magazine. I like this magazine so much but I never tried the Japanese version. Each individual issue costs about $13.00 in the U.S.
