The Conqueror of Shambala takes place two years after the end of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. Edward Elric was separated from his brother when he crossed over into our world through the Judgement gate at the end of the series.

The story begins in Munich, Germany 1923. Edward also lost his alchemy powers during the trip and he spends his time trying to figure out how to get back to his own world. He eventually befriends a young man named Alphons Heiderich, who actually resembles his brother.

However, much of Edward's efforts to get home have failed. One day, he comes to the aid of a gypsy girl in distress, and is thrown into a struggle that could affect both Earth and Edward's world.

Meanwhile, his brother Alphonse is trying to figure out how to get to Edward on Earth. However, history itself will play a great role in Edward and Alphonse's struggle to reunite with each other.

The movie's time period takes place right after WWI and before WWII. Ed is 18 years old. He moved to Munich, Germany during the year 1923. Ed continues to study rocketry with his college study buddy, Alfons Heiderich (aka "Alphons"). Edward is desperate to return to "his" world to see his younger brother, Alphonse Elric.

Unfortunately, "his" world is on the other side of the gate. Al is also determined to see his older brother. With the help of sensei, Al works hard to know everything he can about alchemy. Al changes in appearance. In fact, he looks a lot like Edward in the TV series. Al wears the same red coat as Ed's, has long hair, wears white gloves, and wears a black shirt.
