Where Ken is the restrained, rational type, Joe is exactly the opposite. Joe would just as soon set out to destroy every Galactor before Nambu thought to issue the order. This "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality constantly brings him to odds with Ken and occasionally gets the team into bigger trouble.
Joe's motivation is mainly revenge -- as a child, he watched as his parents were assasinated by a Galactor's bullet. He was almost killed, himself, but was nursed back to health and taken in by Dr. Nambu, who trained him as one of the Science Ninjas.
With Ken's help, Joe eventually remembers that his parents were also Galactors, killed for turning traitor to the organization. This realization helps him to mellow a bit, sympathizing with those who may have family ties which keep them in Galactor. His dedication, to the team, however, is never in question, as he risks his life time and again to put an end to the Galactor organization.
Joe is an accomplished racer and knows his way around a car. He has a soft spot for a pretty face, which gets him into trouble when Galactor women end up falling all over him.

i love Joe and Ken, they are both like brothers but i like them as a yaoi pairing (sorry Jun x Ken fans) i always see them as that but Joe as the seme and Ken the uke, mostly because Ken gets himself in danger and Joe has to save him or the other way around, but mostly Ken getting saved by the team and his dad JoexKen :)

Also I notice you have his eyes as blue - (Ken's are blue) Joe's are actually grey. I do hope that one day someone will correct this info above. I've given the missing pieces of info.

Some info you may wish to update on Joe Asakura. 1st his real name is George pet name 'Joji' translated later to Joe, 2nd he was 18 when the 1st series commenced, 3rd he is said to be 6' 1" tall, 4th he weighed 132 pounds - back then the creators thought everyone was that thin, 5th the voice actor Sasaki Isao.

I love Joe he's lovely. Most people who grew up with Battle of the Planets in the 80's - like I did, only know him as Jason (his name in that version of the series). How much did we all miss from the Gatchaman original ?? LOADS I'm just getting to grips with it now! Apparently Joe is supposed to be 19 years old and I think they were very skinny (a 100 + something lbs) apparently thats how the writers thought they should look. Also although all the team carry the Shuriken; Joe is the only one who actually uses it. ... show more »
