Megumi is a classmate of Ruriko and second smartest, too. The reason why she hates Ruriko is because she thinks that she is a "wealthy, pretty, and popular" girl. Usually a quiet girl, she works in a noodle shop with her family (a constant source of insecurity for her--she doesn't want anyone to know of her "humble" living). So that's why Megumi joins A.E.G.I.S., because she did not want to be left out of anything Ruriko was in. Despite joining AEGIS, Megumi was uncertain of the rightness of AEGIS' mission because her Gate manifestation and indoctrination occurred while defeating an invader who has infiltrated the high school as a teacher.

Later on in the series, she joins Reiji and helps him to take over the world if only he'd "truly acknowledge her". Her Gate eventually turns black, allowing her to invade Ruriko's thoughts in an attempt to get her to turn black as well. But when Shun manages to snap Ruriko out of her black state, Megumi concedes defeat and starts doubing Reiji's chances for his own success.
