Said to be one of the most violent anime ever, Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin (known as Silver Fang in Sweden and Hopeanuoli in Finland) tells the story of Gin (meaning "Silver" in Japanese), a young Akita Inu pup who leaves his owner, Daisuke, and joins a pack of powerful wild dogs who are at war with an evil demon bear named Akakabuto and his carnivorious minions.
Very little is known about this anime, except it has become rather popular in Scandinavia. However, in some Western countries, it was first released as a set of 4 video tapes, but because it contains so much violence, it was heavily censored to make it suitable for children, though recently, the original uncut Japanese version has been released on DVD in Finland and Sweden and is set to be released in Denmark in 2008. It's unclear of whether there will be an English version, but I highly doubt it.
Also, there is a newer series called Ginga: Densetsu Weed, which is set 14 years after the original story and focuses on the adventures of Gin's son, Weed. It began airing in Japan, September 2005, but it is unsure of if will be shown in other countries yet.

I've been looking forever for ginga gin boxsets. If you want the entinre Densetsu Weed, thats easy but Gin's a bit tougher. Try Swedish auction sites, since the series was so popular there, a few pop up for sale from time to time
