Last I checked, this anime was available on DVD at Amazon, and in manga at Amazon.
Guardian of the Sacred Spirit is an anime about a woman named Balsa who is a spearwielder from a country called Kanbal. Balsa is somewhat of a bodyguard who protects other people for atoning for her past sins. In a country called the New Yogo Empire there lives the Emperor who vows to have his second son Chagumu assassinated for holding an egg of a water spirit inside of him which, in turn if left alone, will eventually hatch and a drought will overcome the New Yogo Empire.
When Blasa enters Yogo here she meets the Second Empress who is the mother of Chagumu. There she knows the Emperor wants Chagumu dead but instead asks Balsa to protect him with her life. And here is where Balsa becomes Chagumu's bodyguard.

This is a fantastic anime! I must say though that I would have preferred for Balsa to tell Tanda more explicitly that she does like him as more than just a healing buddy! I think - as do other of the anime characters themselves! - that Tanda and Balsa ought to get together! I mean, Tanda deserves at least that much for his patience and unwavering affection! Maybe another thing that I would have preferred is for Tanda to have been older than Balsa and show a bit more proficiency with a weapon, apart from being an apprentice shaman. An important character missed in the above list is Toya, Saya's friend. I also really really liked how there was no unnecessary bloodshed and none of the characters is actually evil, but trying to do what they sincerely think is the best option. I was near tears when I saw how Jiguro had to kill his best friends though and would have liked to know why he decided to save Balsa at that cost. BTW, I consider the pictures in the anime format to be much more beautiful than the manga version. Is it possible to change the picture you used on top of this page? Thanks! ... show more »
