The son of the leader of the Newtype philosophy, Zeon Zum Daikun, Char is a man hell-bent on revenge. Disguising his face in a mask, Char enters the Zeon space assault force and quickly becomes known as perhaps Zeon's best pilot. After destroying a record number of ships in the cataclysmic Battle of Luum early in the One Year War, he became dubbed the Red Comet-- a name synonymous with death to the Earth Federation's soldiers.
He is Amuro's toughest foe, frequently engaging in battle with him throughout the series in a variety of mobile suits, almost all of which painted in his trademark maroon and light-red (almost salmon) color scheme and all quite stronger than their normal counterparts. However, in Z Gundam, the two become tentative allies as they fight against the Titans.
Char is secretly Sayla's older brother.
