Absolute Anime

Much of Gurren Lagann focuses on the life of Simon. When we first meet him, he's a shy, orphaned digger living in the underground Jihaa Village. He lost his parents in an earthquake and is constantly teased and treated as an outcast by the other villagers. (His only friend was his pet Boota.) All of that changes when he meets Kamina. After developing a brotherly friendship with the boisterous Kamina, he slowly gives Simon more confidence while taking the dangerous journey to the surface. Both of them become the pilots of the robot Gurren Lagann, using the power of a special drill and their own burning courage. Together with the Dai Gurren, they battle the sinister Beastman forces and ultimately quest to take back the surface and free the human race.

However, their journey is sidestepped with the untimely death of Kamina. After sinking into a deep depression, he slowly regains his confidence and purpose with the help of a mysterious girl named Nia. Simon regains his courage and leads the forces of Team Dai Gurren into victory against the Beastmen and their leader Lord Genome. However, their victory would give birth to an even greater threat to humanity's survival....

Seven years pass and humanity has flourished and developed on the surface. Simon has grown into a more confident and beloved young man. However, the lessons he learned from Kamina clashes with the new, more bureaucratic ways of his allies. He also becomes romantically involved with Nia. But now, humanity faces the even greater threat of the Anti-Spirals. As humanity faces imminent annihilation, Simon ultimately comes into his own as a hero and leads Team Dai Gurren into a new mission that will decide the very fate of all life itself.
