Sit Integra Wingates Hellsing is the head of the entire Hellsing Organization which rids England of vampires. She has a true hatred towards these creatures, yet she employs both Alucard and his apprentice, Seras Victoria, who help destroy these vampires/monsters.
She is descended from a long line of vampire hunters, even tracing back to Abraham Van Hellsing. She continues her family's work in order to protect both England and Her Majesty.

She did employ Alucard, he had been working in her family for generations, but he was locked away in the mansion's basment, where Integra found him when she was running from some killers; knowing how she was rightfully his master by inheritance, she employed him under her the same day.
Also, let's make this four cents and say that since she's the owner of Hellsing corporation (or whatever) she's still his _employer_, no matter who hired him, since he works for Hellsing, which is own by her, gives him the status as being employed under her. ... show more »

From what I understood, only a man was allowed to run/controll the Hellsing Organization. When Integra took over after her father died, she had herself named a knight - therefore a Sir - therefore "male" - in order to satisfy tradition, but still maintain control without having to have a "regent" or a husband. ... show more »

Her hair reminds me of Vexen from Kingdom Hearts, but her face makes me think Marik from Yugioh. It's like she spawned both of these characters 0_o But Integra is pretty kick [censored].

The only manly thing about Integra is that shes got more balls than most of the characters in the manga and holds an incredibly high sence of authority. Don't let the suit fool you, she is definately one hell of a woman.

If you read the manga, she doesn't look like a guy. In fact, she's rather well-endowed. She's not a Lady (the feminine of a Lord), and I guess the Sir instead of Dame thing would probably be because there aren't many Dames, and people would get confused. Or the mangaka simply didn't know.
