Alucard is the Hellsing Organization's ultimate weapon in the hunt for rogue vampires. A vampire himself, Alucard may be the most powerful ever. Besides having all the normal powers of a vampire (form transmutation, strength, eyesight, and telepathy), he also possesses a fantastic healing ability. He even survived a decapitation by Paladin Alexander Anderson during their first battle in Badrick, Northern Ireland. It is also rumored that, if Alucard chose to, he could even walk in daylight and not be harmed.

Alucard's relationship with Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing goes back to the time when Sir Integra was 13. The girl had inherited the leadership from her father Sir Arthur Hellsing, learning about it from her father's deathbed. However, Sir Arthur's brother Richard was infuriated by this and tried to have the girl killed. Terrified, the girl ran to the one place her father said was her salvation if she ever found herself in such a situation... a crypt deep within the Hellsing mansion. Alucard was there, but was in the form of a dry corpse. Richard also followed and shot Integra, wounding the girl and spilling her blood on the floor near Alucard. But just as Richard was about to kill Integra, Alucard lapped up the spilled blood, then broke loose from his restraints and killed Richard's henchmen. Integra later killed Richard by shooting him dead. Alucard then pledged his loyalty to Integra, and has protected and helped her since.

As for his relationship with Seras Victoria, Alucard likens himself as the young vampire's mentor. And even though he often belittles her by referring to her as 'Police Girl' instead of her real name, Alucard understands Seras' difficulty transitioning from being human to a vampire, and would often encourage the girl to draw upon her new powers.

Although Alucard would rather use his strength to destroy rogue vampires, he also uses two weapons designed by Walter. The first one is a chrome-plated .454 Casull, nicknamed "Joshua", which fires .454 Casull explosive-head bullets, the alloy for the bullets includes a silver cross from a Lancunian cathedral in Manchester. The second one is larger, gunmetal black and is called "The Jackal". It's ammunition is slightly different; although the bullets are also explosive-bullets, the casings are 13mm and composed of pure silver (Macedonian Process), the powder Marvel's N.N.A. 9, and the bullets are blessed by an Anglican priest. And as an insult to Anderson, the slide of the Jackal has the inscription 'Jesus Christ is in Heaven' on it. Both guns are too powerful for normal humans to wield without injuring themselves and suit Alucard's hard-hitting attack well.

There is also a rumor that Alucard is in reality Vlad Tepes Dracula, the 14th Century Walachian ruler known as 'The Impaler'. If one were to take a look at Alucard's name, it would be 'Dracula' spelled backward. In volume 8 of the manga, Integra refers to Alucard as 'Count'.
