Character Description: Fujiwara no Sai
Fujiwara no Sai is the ghost who enters into Hikaru's consciousness. It's been over 1000 years since Sai has played Go, his greatest passion when he was alive. He died when he threw himself in a river when someone cheated him out of his job.
Note: Sai's family name is Fujiwara, but in Japan family names come before the given name, and names before the Kamakura era (1185–1333 AD) had a conjunctive "no" between family name and first name, which is why his name is usually referenced as "Fujiwara no Sai".

sai was born over 1000 years ago and died then 100 years ago he payed go as shusaku (he possed him like he does hikaru you know) so the last time he played go was around 100 years ago not 1000

Not only is the information lacking, but it's inaccurate. He had played Go in the last thousand years, because he took over Honinbo Shusaku only a hundred years ago or so. It's also suggested that he might come from the Fujiwara clan before they ruled during the Heian Period, which was over a thousand years ago (794 to 1185). Sai also tells of having been from the Heian Period. Perhaps you should include some of this information? ... show more »
