Twelve year old Gon seeks to become a Hunter to pursue his father, Jing Freecs. His Aunt Mito did not approve with the plan and challenged Gon. She said that if he could catch the biggest fish in Whale Island, then he could take the Hunter Exam. To make things even, she gave Gon his father's fishing rod to catch the fish. After many tries, Gon catches the fish and goes to join the Hunter Exam.
Gon is a happy-go-lucky and energetic kid. With his friendly nature, he has won himself trusted friends such as Killua, Kurapica, and Leorio.
