Koukin is Hakufu's cousin, and an honor student at his school. Hakufu and her mother move in with him at the beginning of the series. He is uptight and serious by nature, and quite protective of his cousin. He could be considered Hakufu's babysitter.

At first, he seems to be a far more talented fighter then Hakufu, but as the series goes on, she becomes much stronger than him.

History-wise, Shuyu was Sonsaku's most trusted strategist. Was there something more to their relationship? You decide.
