Knuckle Joe is the son a Star Warrior who was Meta Knight's close friend back in the war of NME. Knuckle Joe's father was turned into a monster by NME and was later on killed by Meta Knight. Before he died, Joe's dad gave him a locket with Knuckle Joe's baby picture in it as a sign of his love.

Knuckle Joe came to Dream Land to seek out revenge on the Star Warrior who killed his dad. King Dedede told him the Star Warrior he was looking was Kirby , and Joe went on an all out rampage to find Kirby. When he did, he started attacking Kirby , but then Meta Knight showed up and told Joe that he was the one that killed his father. Still angry, Joe fought Kirby even more until he turned into a monster himself. Meta Knight then points out that the way Joe is treating Kirby is reason he became a monster. Joe stops himself from attacking Kirby and becomes Kirby's friend. Joe's also a monster hunter.

Knuckle Joe is a fighter, and son of a legendary Star Warrior who is currently into thawing out monsters so he can destroy them. At first, Joe came to Dreamland looking to fight Kirby. He soon learned that he was actually after the wrong enemy when Meta Knight showed up and told him, "The one you seek is me." After Kirby mirrored him to make him realize his monstrous ways, Joe decided to become a good friend of Kirby and fight side by side with him anytime.

Joe returned to fool everyone into thinking that now he only cares about making his bosses happy because all he cares about is monster management. He tricked Dedede into downloading Masher, which tried to take out Kirby by tag-teaming its attacks with Joe. But Joe quickly laid into Masher and let everyone know that he was a monster hunter now, and he and Kirby destroyed the monster. Joe had made his father proud.

When Knuckle Joe came back again, this time, he was wounded, but with Kirby's help, he was still able to defeat a new and improved Masher.
