Pazu is a poor boy who works (especially at his age) in a kind of mining facility. Years ago, his father had a great dream, to fly. His dream came true, but he found, a castle in the sky. He told many people about, but they just laughed at him. Pazu decided that he would learn the truth of the castle.

Pazu found Sheeta when Sheeta escaped from the pirates, and noticed she had interesting powers. He later discovers that she is being chased down for the secret to Laputa's treasure. Muska, a power hungry man, wants the ultimate power of Laputa, which was a superior bomb, like a nuclear explosion.

In the end, Pazu helps Sheeta escape from Muska, and Pazu and Sheeta become friends with the pirates.

After the destruction of Laputa, Pazu and Sheeta fly of together at sunset, waving good bye to the pirates.
