A native of Kyoto, Setsuna is a childhood friend of Konoka and serves as her guardian. Although extremely devoted to Konoka, Setsuna feels unworthy of protecting her, and tries to maintain an atmosphere of impersonality.

Setsuna is also a winged hanyō: the daughter of a human and a crow yōkai. A form of albinism compounds her mixed heritage. Viewed as an omen of ill luck, Setsuna was forced into exile from her tribe. Fearful Konoka will dislike her yōkai blood; Setsuna kept her identity a secret. However, she is forced to reveal her secret during the Kyoto story arc, but Konoka still accepted her and their relationship improved.

She was the third person to form a probationary contract with Negi. Her artifact manifests as a tanto, and her pactio can create sixteen identical blades, which she can use to seal opponents. Setsuna is reserved and loyal, and holds the title of most skilled fighter in Mahora Academy.
