Mikoto is physically strong, but on the flip side she is also quite naïve. She likes Mai Tokiha and her cooking. Mikoto's sword is Miroku. During the first episode of the anime series when Mai saw a girl floating in the sea while she and her younger brother, Takumi Tokiha, were at Fuuka Gakuen for some scholarship, Mai performed CPR on her because there was nobody else who could do it for Mikoto.

In the first episodes of the series Mikoto is with one of the main protagonists but later become an antagonist because Mai didn't control her child, Kagutsuchi, who made a big blast and Mikoto was hit. After the hit, Mai blames herself that Mikoto is dead. But the truth is, Mikoto is still alive, but now with her brother Reito Kanzaki, a.k.a. Lord Kokiyu, and doing wrongs such as killing the childen of the other HiMEs. But still, in the end, Mikoto gets back to normal and becomes one of the main protagonists.
