My Neighbor Totoro is a story about two girls who move to the countryside with their father to be closer to their mother's hospital. As Satsuki and Mei explore their new house (which is haunted by soot sprites and frequented by the Totoros), they discover the world of the Totoros within the giant camphor tree in Tsukamori Forest.
Later on, Satsuki and Mei meet Catbus, a giant orange cat that is a bus - but only children can see him, just as children are the only ones who can see Totoros.
Mei and Satsuki get to play with the Totoros, but when the girls discover that their mother's recurring sickness has prevented her from visiting home on the weekend, O Totoro and Catbus jump in to help them especially when Mei gets lost on her way to the hospital.
This movie will leave a smile on your face and will certainly cheer you up if you're feeling down. People of all ages will love the Totoros and their adventures for years to come.

This movie was an enchanting film with almost no plotline whatsoever. This is the only Miyuzaki film I was ever disapointed in because the movie is so over rated. The movie has a weak start with nothing happening but people runing around yelling "yay! Whoohoo!" for no apparent reason. I had to cover my ears and wince through the first half of the movie. Then in the end, to say it simply WITHOUT SPOILERS, the "hero" relied on a thrid party to come in and save them. They didn't use their own power and in the end, they didn't learn or gain anything. It would have been a much better story if say Totoro had "protected Mei from the outside world" by keeping her in his tree, of course at her will. Then, Satsuki should have had to learn to forgive and convince her sister that she couldn't hide and run away forever to save her... even if her sister didn't want to be saved. ... show more »
