Ayame is one of the smaller, secondary characters of Naruto. She works at the Ichigaku ramen shop with her father (the owner, Teuchi). She is on pretty friendly terms with the ninja of the village.

In episode 168, she is kidnapped by the ryounin, or 'cooking ninja', who strive to find a way to replace Soldier Pills with high-quality food on ninja missions without making the ninja gain weight. The team saves her, but she is victim of the delicious food created by the ryounin, and thus has a massive weight gain. Her father then creates a special ramen diet to help her return to her normal weight.

She has a crush on Kakashi Hatake.
