Idate of the Wasabi family was racing against the Wagarashi family on episode 106, to decide who was in charge. On the way there, though, the other side the Wagarashi hired Aoi Sensei, Idate's old Sensei to try and stop him winning. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, were sent on a B rank mission to help Idate get to the finish line.

Aftter Naruto defeated Aoi sensei, the other runner was already close to the finish line, and because Aoi Sensei broke the bridge Idate and Naruto couldn't get to the other side. But Naruto cut the rope and they were there on the other side within within 2 seconds. Then Idate was well on track to winning.

Later Idate took over the other person and won the race, but was almost disqualified after the other side showed a photograph oh Idate riding on Naruto's back half way through the race. But it was ruled out, and Idate was the true winner.

After, Idate sees his older brother Ibiki Sensei when he was coming to pick up Naruto's team. Kakashi was on a different mission. Ibiki Sensei pretends he does not know Idate, but says he's grown up well since his failure in his exams.
