Tazuna lives in the Land of Waves (also known as the Village Hidden in the Mist). He has a daughter, and a grandson named Inari. One day he's in the Village Hidden in the Leaves, and he was ranked a C mission because he said he only needs protection from thieves. He's suprised when he sees who is guarding him, and calling them snot-nosed brats. (Naruto wanted to hurt him).

On the way, Kakashi found out the truth about the bridge builder's little lie after the demon brothers tried to attack the bridge builder. He did need protection, but he didn't have enough for an A or B mission. The letters A, B, and C are how ninja missions are ranked, based on the difficulty, and on what ninjas can do. Genin, for example, can only do D missions, and the Third Hokage let Kakashi's squad do a C rank mission.

When they get there, he tells the group about Gato, and what his daughter and grandson would do if they let him go after they reach shore, and get killed. Tazuna is building the bridge to bring trade to their poverish country.

He later tells the group (Kakashi, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke) how Inari's step-father taught the village about what courage meant. Also, Zabuza attacks the group twice, and the bridge does get done.

When the bridge got done, someone suggested of naming the bridge. He says," How about The great Naruto bridge."
