Blackbeard is the person that Luffy's brother, Portgaz, is looking for. He shows up on an island called Jaya ordering fifty pies, and Luffy tried to order one hundred steaks. He has heard about Bellany talking about how dreams of certain things like Sky Island and One Piece are myths and that other pirates would laugh at them. Blackbeard believes that the "new era" that they are talking "is a bunch of crap."
Blackbeard's crew has a total of four other people, a navigator, sniper, helmsman, and a doctor. His navigator shows up at a meeting for choosing a new warlord because Crocodile was defeated by Luffy. The rest of the crew is at Jaya.
When Blackbeard sees Luffy's bounty, he tries to capture him. Unfortunately, he missed his chance.
