Whitebeard (AKA Edward Newgate) is captain of the Whitebeard Pirate Crew, and Ace's (Luffy's older brother) captain. He is always sitting on his large chair surrounded by nurses, he is very ill and has many IV tubes all over him. Despite his illness he drinks a lot, drinking a whole barrel full of rum.

Whitebeard seems to know Red Hair Shanks.
