She has great faith that the machine, created by her friend Dr. Kosaku Tokita, would be instrumental in the treatment of dream disorders. However, she often uses the DC Mini without authorization from the institute's chairman, Dr. Seijiro Inui (usually through her avatar Paprika).
Personality-wise, Dr. Chiba comes off as cold and aloof, much unlike Paprika. She also has little patience for Dr. Tokita's immature behavior, as well as his lack of portion control.
