Erika is a serene young lady who trains in Grass Type Pokemon. She runs a cosmetics store in downtown Celadon City where she sold a brand of perfume made from the essence of her favorite Pokemon Gloom. Ash made Erika mad when he insulted her perfume, so as a punishment she banned him from both the shop and gym. Ash later snuck into the gym (dressed as girl) with the help of Team Rocket.
Erika was reading Grass Type Pokemon a story when Pikachu recognized Ash and blew his cover. It wasn't until then that Erika decided to battle him. Their match was interrupted when Team Rocket starts a fire in the gym. Ash saves Erika's most valued Pokemon, Gloom, and as a thanks, Erika awards Ash a Rainbow badge.
In the manga, Erika lectures at universities and practices archery. Erika also had a friend named Kaede, who had allergies to flowers.
Erika seems to be close with her Gloom. When she was a little girl, it rescued her from a wild Grimer.

In the Gameboy version(Red/blue) she has wrinkles on her face or looks like it!!!!
