May is a new character joining the cast of Pokémon in the 2003-2004 season. She has already made her appearance in the Japanese series, now titled Pokemon Monsters Advanced Generation. Believe it or not, she's a 'replacement' for Misty.
Her character is based on the female trainer the player can pick in the new Ruby/Sapphire editions of the Pokemon games. And like the game, her father is Norman, the Petalburg City Gym Leader.
As for how she joins up with Ash, they both meet in Littleroot Town with different intentions. For May she was just starting off her Pokemon journey, hoping to get her starting Pokemon, while Ash intended to compete in the Hoenn League, having finished the Johto league. They actually meet during a Team Rocket attempt to capture Pikachu, which by fate or not, results in the destruction of May's bike.
May then joins Ash on his journey, which is good because Ash knows more about traveling and could definitely help her out.
As for Pokemon, May starts of with the Fire Starter of the Ruby/Sapphire games, Torchic.

thats when you start with a grass type pokemon in any of the games your rival will start off with a fire type example:i started with a turtwig my rival started with a chimchar so yup the info at the bottom needs to be changed

I like all of the girls in Pokemon but do you think any of them will return or once they're not in the series anymore (Misty, May) they are gone for good?
