Nope, your eyes aren't deceiving you. There IS an anime version of the Powerpuff Girls. In this anime-style re-imagining of the series, instead of Townsville, Z takes place in Tokyo City. When Professor Utonium and his son accidently create the substance Chemical Z (created when a Rice Cake falls into a vat of Chemical X), his son shoots it as a beam when a giant glacier threatens the city.
Shooting out into different white and black beams of light, it hits three regular girls, Momoko, Miyako, and Kaoru, giving them all superpowers and the ability to transform into the Powerpuff Girls! However, out of the light of Chemical Z, new super-villains are created, such as the mad monkey Mojo Jojo and many other strange foes.
With a new set of problems ahead for Tokyo City, will these new Powerpuff Girls be the cure?

Wow! I love this show! I wish they had kept a few of the villains from the old version though. I think it looks cooler [censored] an anime.

Nakakaasar! ... show more »

I like this series, probably more than the original. The reasons are not because Japan did it and it's in anime form, but because of the creativity the creators took in not only making it similar to the original, but the amount of storyline they put in to each episode. I didn't entirely enjoy how they tried to keep to the original's tradition and have 15min episodes, for those stories could have been stretched more, but they did them well. I LOVE the story of Miyako's first love. I guess I'm just a sap, but I thought it was very cute. I'm sad that it's only 52 episodes as the creators could have played with more of the story, but I feel like a lot of the stories fell into one another, if not completely due to their purpose in the end. A lot of times I questioned the reality concept of the plot like how the girls missed school and how their personal lives worked, and Japan had solved most of those in the episodes, as usual.
The ending was a nice twist, though I do wish the ending would be like some dramas do and have like a "what's going on with their lives" sort of ending with the music playing in the background. I was picturing something like Momoko still hitting on Senpais, Miyako with Taka-chan, and Kaoru with her loving family, either way I kinda wished or a cheesy ending like that.
All in all, I thought this was an awesome series. Wished the mecha had more scenes and you could see Ken & the Prof with the mother in the end...but it's a great series for all ages. Plus, it's funny when they insert some original PPG into the series for kicks. Goes to show that Japan will still immortalize an original concept even if they make a modified series. :) ... show more »
