Dr. Tofu, the local chiropractor, is highly skilled in martial arts medicine, when he's himself. But whenever he sees Kasumi, his glasses steam up and he becomes a babbling fool, and a danger to himself and his patients, as everyone but Kasumi knows. Often after seeing Kasumi, he dances around in glee with his skeleton 'Betty-chan'.

At the beginning of the series, Akane is heartbroken over his interest in Kasumi. Akane has had a crush on him since she was a child.

Genma gets a part-time job doing chores at his clinic.

The word "tofu" in Japan means "application (of ointment)", in addition to the food... but the kanji for Tofu's name is actually Tōfū (or "Toufuu", with a long "o" and "u"), which means "East Wind" or "Spring Wind".
