Tomoe Yukishiro is one of the most important characters in Samurai X. She is important because of her relation to Kenshin, which is pretend wife. At first, she plotted on Kenshin's life, because he had killed her fiancee, who was a bodyguard. But, following an accident in Kyoto, she pretends to be Kenshin's wife, and goes and lives up in the mountains with him, so he can escape from the police.
And her plan to kill Kenshin would have worked, if they had not fallen in love with each other the day before the plan was to be carried out. Unfortunately, due to a series of accidents, Kenshin slays Tomoe (accidentally!).
As she lay dying in Kenshin's arms, Tomoe made the second of the two cuts on Kenshin's left cheek that made up the cross-shaped scar by which the Battousai is most commonly recognized. However, it is not until the Meiji Revolution has ended and the war is over that Kenshin vows never to kill again.

Tomoe haters annoy the heck out of me. It's not like she get's in the way of your precious KenKao, she's DEAD. -_-' Let's not forget that her spirit (debatable) told Kenshin that Kaoru was alive and to go to her. The OVA completely ruined her character. They made it seem like she purposely gave kenshin the second part of his scar and that she died for no reason when in the manga it shows that she saved Kenshin's life for a fact. Kenshin expected to die in that battle, he was freaking blind, deaf, bleeding, weak, and had lost all of his other senses besides smell. Tomoe was able to block his enemy's attack as she died. As for her being "too cold" and a "[censored]", this is all a lie. "The true Tomoe is kinder than anyone and anything". She just had trouble expressing herself, lot's of people have social problems. Whether haters like it or not, Kenshin was truly in love with her and she was truly in love with him. It doesn't matter if Kenshin was her second love, Kaoru is Kenshin's second love and he truly loved Kaoru too. It isn't impossible to love two people in one lifetime. Tomoe gave her life for her love and it is thanks to her that Kenshin was able to meet Kaoru and the rest of the Kenshin-gumi, was able to live his life no matter how hard and painful it was and achieve happiness in the end. As for the age difference, Tomoe- 3 years older than kenshin, Kenshin- 11 years older than Kaoru LOL. Kenshin had no problem with loving 2 women, his issues were with wondering if her deserved to live happily. I personally love KenKao and KenTom equally and just overall love Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga. In answer to the latest anon, Tomoe is in the Jinchuu arc of the manga. Her younger brother, Enishi, returns to take revenge on Kenshin for his sister's death. Kenshin recounts the story to the Kenshin-gumi 13 chapter flashback (sometimes called the Remembrance Arc, Ch 165-178) so that they are all aware of what the new enemy is actually bringing to the table.
The OVA is... fairly accurate to what happened in the manga (except they actually did marry in the manga), but it did suck most of the charm out of the characters (Kenshin and Tomoe both). It changed Tomoe's characterization in a few ways (mainly at the end). Frankly the OVA made her out to be a rather selfish cold b*tch, but she definitely doesn't come across like that in the manga. (In the one of later chapters Kenshin describes her "The real Tomoe is kinder than anyone or anything" so... the ova *really* butchered her character)
So yes. Real character. Very real character XD. I hope you make it to the Jinchuu Arc, it's a sin that it was never animated. ... show more »

Is she even in the manga? I havent heard anything about her yet. Seeing as the anime has changed quite a few things from the origional (like most do >.>''). Just wondering, because untill i hear of her in the manga, I refuse to include her as a real character.
