Character Description: Shuji
Shuji is Chise's new boyfriend, and goes to the same school. He is the second primary character, and is one of the most driving forces in the entire series.
Shuji studies hard, gets good grades, and is a very good athlete. He used to be on the track team with Akemi, but has left prior to the series starting. He is kinda clumsy around Chise, sometimes fumbling over what to say to her, but he knows that he loves her.
He's not perfect, however, and he had a relationship of intimate content with Fuyumi before the series as well, likely the reason he left the track team, and meets up with her again in Episode 4: Fuyumi. He shares a few more intimate moments with her, which deeply upsets Chise, but in the end he leaves her to continue his relationship with Chise.
Throughout the series, Shuji is forced to watch his friends die one by one. First Take, then Yukari, then Akemi, and finally everyone else on the planet. This is a strong motivator for Shuji, because he has very strong feelings about war and death, and no matter what, he always tries to protect Chise and do what's best for her.

I have only seen two episodes of Saikano (one of them was the last one), but even if I watched so little of it I can't help but applaud this guy Shuji for loving his girlfriend so truly and sincerely (actually, the last episode made me cry even though I'm a reploid, and a maverick at that). Not only that but I also admire him for having made love with Chise while truly loving her, something I will NEVER be able to do with my dear Momoko Akatsutsumi or any of the other anime cuties I like...
