Melvin is sweet, but a major and proverbial nerd and overachiever. Since he's so smart, he's in the same circles as Amy. Originally he had a crush on Serena, however in Episode 13- "The Power of Friendship", he saved Molly from Bobo the Vulture's flying boxing glove attack. From then on he's had a crush on her. She may like him too, but doesn't want to admit it. In a later episode they do go out for a date.
On one of the Episodes of Sailor Moon S, Melvin tells about his love for Molly at a lovers contest. And on the forth episode of Sailor Moon Super S, Molly refuses to continue dating Tiger's Eye because she already had a boyfriend, an it was non other then Melvin.
No one knows what Melvin's eyes look like because he always wears spiral-eyed glasses.
Melvin's last name, McCellbellum (a pun on his being brainy), is mentioned by Luna in the episode "An Unnatural Phenomenon".

Melvin/Umino is probably the only decent character in the show. He is kind and funny. If he was the main character it would be better. I would much rather have this funny handsome muggle than either the heroes or villains most of whom are loathsome!
