Michelle Kaioh is a young lady who is caught between two grand things. On one side of her is her incomparable aesthetic beauty. Not only is she herself beautiful, but she has an unparalleled talent for the fine arts: a virtuoso on the violin and a renowned painter and sculptor. On the other side is this daunting destiny of hers: like a tsunami about to swamp a city. She knows what is coming, and she is coming to terms with the reality that the beautiful side of herself has to wait in the face of these ill omens. She considers it her fate to defend the world as Sailor Neptune. She takes comfort, however, in knowing that she is not alone. Amara, her most treasured companion, is by her side.
Are they truly lovers (the dub downplays this relationship by depicting them as cousins)? It's up to you, but you can't think of one without considering the other. In any event, Michelle is the submissive lady of the pair.
Sailor Neptune, naturally enough, is the soldier of the oceans. Her Japanese name, Michiru Kaioh, means "Lord of the Seas and Tides," referring to Neptune himself, Roman god of the seas. Not only can she deluge her foes with the tidal wave of Deep Submerge, but she can cleanse illusions and reveal the truth through the Submarine Mirror.
Michiru Kaioh is an Outer Senshi. She teams up with Sailor Uranus and was more sure of being a Sailor Senshi once she found out Sailor Uranus' true identity, Haruka Tenoh. Her favorite color is also her hair color, marine blue. She and Haruka took care of Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) as if Hotaru was their daughter. In the Japanese version, Haruka and Michiru are in love, while in the U.S. release they're seen as cousins instead of lovers because of potentially strong negative sentiments on lesbianism.

They shouldn't censor their couple-ness just because they're two women. Being a lesbian isn't any more WRONG than being straight, it's just something different. Besides, they're so lovely together.

Michiru and Haruka are portrayed as a couple. Even in the US version there are subtle hints at the lesbianism going on. I don't think it matters what the people who 'converted' the series say, it is still very obvious that Neptune and Uranus are 'together.'

In Haruka's profile it says "Many a time, Naeko Takeuchi, the creator of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, has been asked about Haruka-san and Michiru-san. All her replies have been the same: They are a couple."
I think we can finally admit, yes they're a couple. The USA dub doesn't want to admit it, but, us fans, know and are used to this vision. They are lovers. They are a couple. A very beautiful, in fact. ... show more »
