Character Profile: Squid Girl

This strange girl, who happens to be a cephalopod (a shell-less mollusk, much like an octopus), had become fed-up with the surface world wantonly dumping toxins and garbage into the world's oceans. Taking it upon herself, she decided to stage a one-squid campaign to take over the surface world and enslave its citizens. But when she came out of the ocean, she decided to use the first thing she saw, the Lemon Beach House, as a base of operations. Of course the owners of the shop, the sisters Eiko and Chizuru Aizawa, thought Squid Girl was just an unusual girl and put her to work as a waitress. Feeling slighted, Squid Girl decided to impress upon Eiko about her might – and used her tentacles to punch a hole in the side of the beach house. Now as a result, she has to work at the beach house to pay for the repairs to the building!

Just like any other squid, Squid Girl has the abilities of her kin. Her hair is actually tentacles which she can maneuver and use as weapons or for grappling objects. She can spit ink like a squid (which the beach house uses as a pasta sauce), and she has the ability of luminescence (she can glow a bright light). She likes to eat shrimp - in quantity, and is known often to pick shrimp off of Goro's plate before serving him. She is also very terrified of orcas (killer whales) and shark, being they're a squid's natural predators. In the English dub, her speech is dotted with nautical references or squid puns.
