Character Description: Zero
Upon his petition with Tokimi, the renegade scientist Dr. Clay had set out for Earth to try to capture Washu, for what reasons Tokimi wanted her is unknown. To accomplish this, Dr. Clay had captured Ryoko and sent his android servant Zero to impersonate her so that it could be in a position to do so.
But when Zero had duplicated itself to mimic Ryoko, two unforseen problems had occurred. One was that the gem on Ryoko's wrist could not be duplicated exactly, and thus exploded, forcing Zero to take Ryoko's. The other problem was that Zero had duplicated Ryoko's memories too perfectly - which included her feelings towards Tenchi. As a result, whenever Zero was about to capture Washu, Tenchi would appear and Zero would become too flustered to do the job. Becoming impatient with Zero's failure to capture Washu, Dr. Clay then ordered Zero to kill Tenchi. But even Zero could not do that.
Washu had earlier found out that Zero was not Ryoko, and had confronted the robot after she failed to kill Tenchi. Soon afterward, Ayeka had confronted Zero, but the robot had disabled the guardians Azaka and Kamidake by telekineticly slamming them into Ayeka's room. But when Tenchi showed up and Ayeka tried to restrain him, Zero became upset and disappeared.
After that, Tenchi, Ayeka, and Washu enlisted the help of Ryo-Ohki and set off for Dr. Clay's ship. Along the way, the group were joined by Mihoshi. Tenchi and Ayeka joined the detective, while Washu confronted her old rival on the bridge, where Ryoko was kept.
It was during this confrontation that Zero had shown up. At first, it looked like the android was helping Dr. Clay. But soon afterward, Zero rebelled and pleaded with Dr. Clay not to harm Tenchi. Angry, Dr. Clay broke the control ring he had around his finger and destroyed Zero - or so he thought. Somehow, Zero's love for Tenchi had kept the android functional, and as a result, foiled Dr. Clay's plans.
Although fatally damaged, Washu had used her scientific knowhow to assimilate Zero's mind with Ryoko. As a result, Ryoko is now able to experience the emotions she had earlier repressed.
