After dropping out of the military, Kenji lived with his older brother Ryusaku and their adopted brother Tatsu. The three often stole money and military blueprints, destroying the blueprints with the hopes of there being less weapons in Japan.

However, after Tetsujin 28's crash-landing in Japan and the deaths of Kenji's brothers, Kenji became determined to destroy Tetsujin one way or another. He gradually begins to tolerate Shotaro through the series, and later on, rescues him once. When not seeking revenge, Kenji is rowdy and arrogant, but protective of anyone close to him.
