Character Profile: Moroboshi Ataru

Ataru is Lum's "fiancee". He actually never asked her to marry him, but Lum thought he did due to a misunderstanding when he said "Now I can marry her" in reference to his girlfriend Shinobu Miyake after he saved the world by grabbing Lum's horns.

Luckless, libidinous, lustful, lecherous, lavaicious. These are only a few of the L-words that describe him. He is an unlucky, gluttinous womanizer. His life is an endless 'girl-hunt'. Even the fact that he disgusts every girl on the planet does nothing to curb his lusting nature. As confirmed by the Oniboshi (Lum's home planet) database, Ataru is the single most lecherous being in the entire Universe. The only girl who really loves him is Lum. (Even then, no one can really say why.)

Ataru was born during a major earthquake, on Friday the 13th, that happened to fall on Buddha's death day. His bad luck is legendary. Frequently he attracts spirits, monsters, and (you guessed it!) aliens! Lum was the first, but not by any means the last. As bad as Ataru seems, he's a 'good natured sort'. If you cut away all the lustful nature, you'll find an intelligent, caring person. Ataru's downfall and eventual capture lies in the fact that, for as much as denies it, he really does love Lum, and would lay down his life for her if she needed it.

As bad as Ataru is, remember, he did save the Earth.
