W.I.T.C.H. is based on a comic published by Disney's European publishing division.
W.I.T.C.H is the story of 5 girls chosen to become guardians of the veil, a magical border that separates Metamoor from the rest of the known worlds. Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin are the five young girls who discover that have been given elemental powers which they must use as Guardians of the Veil. Hay Lin is 13 years old with the star sign Gemini, Taranee Cook is also 13 and has the star sign Aries, Irma Lair is 12 years old with the star sign Pieces, and Will Vandom is 14 years old and a Capricorn.
Each of them is granted power over one element, Cornelia has Earth, Taranee has Fire, Irma has Water, and Hay Lin has Air. Will is the only one that does not control one of the four elements, as she is the heart, or neutral, that unites the other four. Although not guardians, Cedric and Eylon are occasionally mentioned as the dark and the light.
They oppose the despotic Prince Phobos who rules the land of Meridian with an iron fist.

i consider this an anime because it has pretty much all the elements of an anime. anime doesn't have to be strictly japanese, look at avatar the last airbender. that is totally anime, and it's american! also, this show is AWESOME.

I love W.I.T.C.H! Cornelia is my favourite character, but I also like Will alot. It isn't real anime, but it isn't cartoon. They still have little glints in their eyes.

the is diffrences between anime and cartoon but what makes anime anime it has more detail and it's japanese but i would say there could be a such thing as an anime that's no Japanese because this show has an anime apperence
